On August 11, from 1-3pm, on the steps of Los Angeles City Hall, located at 1st and Spring Streets, State Senator Sheila Kuehl, author of SB 840, a bill that addresses health care reform, and genuine universal health care for all California residents. I found this information on the Internet.
A local blogger by the name of Five Before Midnight informs me of problems we have with our local police department and city council. You can find her site at http://rivercitycopwatch.blogspot.com/ . Her site is dedicated to the continuous oversight of the Riverside(CA)Police Department, which was under oversight by the state attorney general until March 2006.
We have lots of important issues that affect the I.E. that I would like to know about. But what can I do to find this info. The local newspapers are no help. They seem to limit what they publish when it comes to community events and gatherings. Blogs and local radio seem to do a slightly better job at getting the word out ahead of time. Welcome to the 21st century.
Bill Bennett is a syndicated ultra-conservative talk show host on KTIE 590 AM that loves old music from the fifty’s, and has some great ideas about the way life is to be lived. His brother was Bill Clinton’s Lawyer during “Monica-Gate” and Whitewater. He caught my ear when he said, “If we want our children to possess the traits of character we most admire, we need to teach them what those traits are and why they deserve both admiration and allegiance. Children must learn to identify the forms and content of those traits.” He also believes that all boys join gangs of one sort or the other. “Is it going to be a street gang or a football team?” I agree with him 100%. It is up to us as parents to steer our children in the right direction.
Bill Bennett may be a little bit of a rightwing madman sometimes, but he is not the only voice out there. Dennis Baxter anchors "Morning Drive" at KCAA 1050 AM. He was born and raised in the Inland Empire and matriculated San Bernardino Valley College with a broadcasting major. He seems to understand a lot of the issues that we face in the I. E. such as traffic, crime, politics, and race relations. Also on KCAA we have a Southern California's Broadcasting Legend, George Putnam, a 92 years young veteran of 72 years as a reporter, broadcaster and commentator... and still going strong.
For the ultra-liberal at heart, and in my opinion the most offensive radio show around, short of something on NPR, we have K-CAL’s The Morning Stiffy at 96.7 FM. Never heard of The Morning Stiffy? Well if you listen to 96.7 in the morning then you all know whom I'm talking about! Stu, Tiffany, and Jimbo your morning stiffy!
KCAL-FM is an independent rock music radio station in Redlands, California, broadcasting to the Riverside-San Bernardino, California Known as 96-7 K-CAL Rocks, the station is best known for its Hard Rock music, big-money contests, outrageous persona and morning show, the Morning Stiffy, starring Stu (a 31-year veteran of the radio station), Tiffany (10 years), and Jimbo (13 years). Other long-time personalities include Midday host Kelli Cluque (in her second tenure covering a total of 8 years), Daryl (21 years) and Filthy Sanchez (8 years).
We don’t have to rely on the TV or newspapers that show a bias that we can’t choose for ourselves. The Inland Empire has a large and varied choice of radio stations to choose from:
KUCR 88.3 FM University of California - Riverside, Variety,
KGGI 99.1 FM Riverside, Urban Contemporary
KOLA 99.9 FM San Bernardino, Oldies,
KATY 101.3 FM Idyllwild, Adult Contemporary
KWVE 107.9 FM San Clemente, Religious
KTIE 590 AM San Bernardino, News/Talk
KTDD 1350 AM San Bernardino, Country
KWRM 1370 AM Corona, Asian
KCAL 1410 AM Redlands, Spanish
KPRO 1570 AM Riverside, Religious
KHPY 1670 AM Moreno Valley, Spanish
Another great local blog site is http://save-riverside.blogspot.com/. Save Riverside’s Mission Statement states:”Save-Riverside is a non-partisan grassroots alliance dedicated to promoting positive social and political change through the democratic process. Our primary purpose is to put an end to Eminent Domain abuse, restore the democratic process and expose and fight corruption within City, County, and State governing bodies.”
This is definitely something not only Riverside needs, but other cities in the I.E. Check out their Vision Statement and their Goals if you go to the site.
“Hello Riverside” is a new kid on the block. http://www.helloriverside.com/ is its address. Here we have a basic community website with lots of local events, and happenings.
If we really want great local information, entertainment, event calendars, political rallies, or news you have choices, not just Newspapers and TV. We also have a newcomer to modern communications, the Blog, which is short for Web Log, and a old standby that never went away, the radio. As always please post your comments and opinions in the comment section at the bottom of each article on the blog page, http://www.aricisom.com/. You can also post to past articles in there proper location at the bottom of each.

Glad to see resourses such as radio stations and blogs that folks can listen to in the Inland Empire (IE) with commentary.
I think the Inland Empire Weekly newspaper (IE Weekly) is another resource that folks can look to. They have written some great articles such as about redevelopment and eminent domain in Riverside. Believe their website is http://www.ieweekly.com
I also think that the FREE, Inland Empire Craigslist community website http://inlandempire.craigslist.org and the sister site there to the Palm Springs craigslist community website http://palmsprings.craigslist.org also offer much as these are GRASSROOTS FREE websites that are provided FREE to our communities by Craig Newmark of Craigslist.org if San Francisco, CA. The catch is that as free sites we need to "tend these sites ourselves, sort of like tending a community garden" where weeds will grow if you do not pull them. Our weeds are spam advertising and nonlocal ads and offensive ads but we have the power to remove these, or pull these weeds from our garden.
Craigslist FREE (except for job ads on about 7 sites - ours is totally free) classified advertising section has a community section where events, classes, groups, volunteers items may be posted. For example the events ads are here http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/eve/
Craigslist also provides areas under community for folks to post items about local matters and politics, lost dogs, musical, daycare, activity partners and more. For example the politics ads are posted here http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pol/ I posted an item about your IE Radio and Blogs, blog.
I enjoy your blogs very much and hope you continue blogging.
If you’re a George Putnam fan I would really recommend taking a look at this link. It’s filled with up to date articles written by George Putnam
Somehow, Save Riverside got my eMail address for their mass eMails, and I don't have any means to unsubscribe!
When I try to request them to remove my address, their eMail bounces back as invalid.
What gives?
